Pulse Power Supply

Pulse Power Supply
Overview

The Aditya Pulse Power Supply System (APPS) is an infrastructure supporting plasma experiments of ADITYA-U and SST-1, Commissioned in 1986 by AEG Germany. The system was specifically designed to meet the pulsed power requirements of ADITYA-U experiments. Since its installation, APPS has demonstrated long-term reliability, supporting approximately 2,000 plasma shots annually for last 35 years. APPS comprises three major thyristor-based power supplies: the Ohmic Transformer Power Supply (±20 kA, 2.2 kV), the Toroidal Field Power Supply (50 kA, 350 V), the Vertical Field Power Supply (12.5 kA, 2.4 kV), and Fast Feedback power Supply (±2kA, 200V). In 2005, the APPS’s role was extended to support the by supplying power to SST-1 copper-based Ohmic and Vertical field coils. This integration highlighted the flexibility and robustness of APPS system in adapting to new experimental needs. Over more than three decades, APPS has been continuously operated, maintained, and upgraded by a dedicated in-house team, ensuring sustained performance, fault management, incremental modification, Prototype development and control tweaking in line with experimental demands.
