Program (Ph.D, Post Doc)

PhD Program Overview

IPR offers a rigorous PhD program in Physical Sciences through Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). The program is designed to train scientists in experimental, theoretical, and computational aspects of plasma physics and fusion energy research.

Duration: Minimum 5 years (coursework + thesis research)
Degree Awarded: Ph.D. in Physical Sciences (HBNI)
Mode: Full-time residential program

PhD Program Structure
1
Course Work (Year 1)

Foundational courses in plasma physics, nuclear science, mathematics and computing. Students must maintain a minimum CGPA of 6.5 to continue.

2
Research Proposal (Year 1-2)

Students identify a research topic, submit a detailed proposal and present before the thesis advisory committee.

3
Thesis Research (Year 2-5)

Full-time research under assigned faculty supervisor. Progress is reviewed every six months by the Doctoral Committee.

4
Pre-Submission Seminar

Student presents research findings to the academic committee before thesis submission for evaluation of completeness.

5
Thesis Submission & Defense

Final thesis submission to HBNI followed by evaluation by external examiners and an open viva-voce defense.

Post Doctoral Fellowship Program
The Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) Program is designed to promote advanced research and innovation in emerging areas of science, technology, engineering, and interdisciplinary studies. The program provides an excellent opportunity for highly motivated researchers to work with experienced scientists and faculty members on nationally important research projects.
The fellowship aims to strengthen research capabilities by encouraging young researchers to pursue independent research in frontier areas aligned with the objectives of the institute and Government of India initiatives.
