Cryogenic Plant & Distribution System (CPDS) of SST-1 Cryogenics Division facilitates the cool-down of the superconducting magnets and 80K thermal shields of SST-1 Tokamak for plasma experiments. The section has developed vapor cooled conventional current leads of 10kA rating, cryo-lines with multiple process pipes, temperature transmitter cards for cryogenic sensors (e.g. TVO, Cernox, etc.), electrical insulation breaks, cryogenic vacuum barriers & dissimilar material joints, etc. The section has experimental facility to test conventional current leads of low-temperature superconductor (LTS) & high-temperature superconductor (HTS), superconducting coils and cryogenic temperature calibration etc. CPDS Section has following sub-systems.
a) Helium Refrigerator cum Liquefier (HRL) of 1.3 kW at 4.5K
It has refrigeration capacity of 650W at 4.5K & liquefaction rate of 200 liter/h. It consists of following sub-systems.
1) Compressor Station housing 3 nos. of screw compressors
2) Oil Removal System
3) On-line Purifier
4) Coldbox with Main Control Dewar
b) Integrated Flow Distribution & Control System (IFDCS)
c) Superconducting Current Feeder System (CFS)
d) Warm Gas Management (WGM) System with Helium recovery system
It has 4 nos. of medium pressure storage vessels to store pure Helium gas & 2 nos. of high pressure storage vessels to store impure helium gas.
e) Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Management & 80K Distribution System
f) 80K Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Booster System & Valve Box
g) 12 kA, 16VDC Programmable Power Supply
